ARCHAEOLOGY AND THE ARTS
Journal ARCHAEOLOGY was launched in December 1981 for the purpose of bridging the gap between the scholarly world and the general public.
The devotion of separate fascicles to a special theme widens the horizon of students and gives the general public the opportunity of becoming familiar with the work of Greek and foreign scholars in the field of Archaeology.
The material of the journal is arranged in a first part, comprising articles concerning the specific theme to which the fascicle is devoted.
A second part contains studies on various subjects and the permanent columns, which over the years have been increased significantly [Archaeological News, Museums (a museum in the Greek area), Correspondence, Educational presentations, Childrens pages, Archaeometry News (news from the Hellenic Society for Archaeometry), a column on Information/Network sites and News from the Ephorate of Underwater Antiquities].
From 1994 onwards, more than one fascicle, usually four in chronological succession, has tended to be devoted to a special theme, (Antiquity, Byzantium, Modern period, Contemporary period).
In June 1995, the periodical was renamed ARCHAEOLOGY AND THE ARTS (ΑΡΧΑΙΟΛΟΓΙΑ ΚΑΙ ΤΕΧΝΕΣ), broadening the subject matter related to the field of Archaeology.
In April 2008, a new website of archaeological interest was launched. The website Αρχαιολογία on line (www.arxaiologia.gr and www.archaeologia.gr), which is updated daily with a variety of news from all over the world.
